DIGESTIVE GROWTH
pt. I - videoanimation, 0:33 min
pt. II - aluminium, plastics, quartzsand, wood - 66 x 105 x 105 cm
The two-part work starts with the discovery of plastiglomerates and explores the intricate mycelial network of fungi and its ability to break down and digest plastics by highlighting the potential for using natural systems to solve human-made environmental problems. It emphasizes the role that technology can play in harnessing their unique properties to address these issues in the age of the Anthropocene.
The sculpture was created by using a generative algorithm that could be used to simulate the growth of mushrooms.
