ANISSA TAVARA (born 1992, Hamburg) holds degrees in both Engineering and Fine Arts. She received her artistic education from the Hochschule für Bildende Künste Hamburg, with a study abroad at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris.
Her practice explores the tension between digital abstraction and material embodiment, specifically grounded in a material-driven, form-finding approach, with a strong focus on biomaterials and their processual behavior. Central to her work are translations between analog and digital space — negotiating object- and image-based logic, control and material autonomy.

2) A BUNCH OF SILVERFISH, pt. I & II, 2025 (concept 2023): The two-part work begins with an artificially generated image, an observation, and a piece of paper eaten by silverfish. The pattern of the paper was transferred onto aluminum, behind which a video is displayed. Filmed beneath warped ceiling mirrors at a train station, the video shows distorted reflections of passing bodies merge into a single mass, reconstructing the initial moment of encounter. The work negotiates authorship and perspective.
A BUNCH OF SILVERFISH. pt. I & II, 2023 have been first shown at the HFBK Hamburg Annual Exhibition 2023 and have been part of a private collection since.
3). LILY, 1-3. 2025: Three resin-printed holders carry lilies. The flowers enter a state of exaggerated bloom, staining themselves and their surroundings. The work stages floral reproduction as an artificial intervention that balances care and excess and confronts classical ideals of beauty and purity with exhaustion and collapse.
4) DEPTH MAP, 2025: Depth maps are digital tools commonly used to visualize spatial depth in computer graphics and, increasingly, in artificial intelligence. In the work a physical object is used to create an analog depth map from algae-based biomaterial. This analog map is used to digitally reconstruct the original object, without relying on any 3D scanning technology. In this process depth becomes both data and residue, linking organic transformation with digital translation
5) WHERE IS MY SKIN, pt. II, 2024: The work presents reproductions of my skin, derived from a 3D scan of my body by using its 2D information as a pattern on processed biomaterial. The piece reflects on bodily boundaries through digital dissection and material reassembly, while also addressing questions of identity and belonging. This work was first shown at the HFBK Hamburg Annual Exhibition 2024. Further exhibitions include the virtual permanent gallery of the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris: latlas.beauxartsparis.fr, XPON-Art Gallery Hamburg and Haus der Kunst Munich in 2024.
